Started my career in the steel industry in1976 with Consani Engineering and has been in the industry ever since in various capacities. I successfully completed my boilermaker/plater apprenticeship in 1980.
As a result of my outstanding technical achievements, I was one of three selected elite to advance to the drawing office in 1981 at Consani Engineering and was offered a “reduced” drafting apprenticeship which I successfully completed in 1983 and was also able to completed my technical certificate and major in technical drawings, connection design and strength of material with advance mathematics and engineering science as add-on subjects.
During my first years as a structural steel detailer I was fortunate to be involved in steel projects of various shapes and sizes, most noticeably the extension to the parliament building in Cape Town which consists of different roof slopes and hips and valleys. As a capetonian I spend most of my detailing years in Cape Town with different companies and at some of the companies I held the position of drawing office manager.
In 1995 I was trained and start working on Strucad a 3-D detailing software and has been working on 3-D software ever since. This creates the opportunity to work in Australia for some time. In 2005 relocated to Johannesburg and was employed by Genrec Engineering, one of the biggest structural steel companies in the country. At Genrec with in seven months I was promoted from senior detailer to section leader to drawing office manager.
In 2009 started my own detailing company and detailed various and deferent steel projects, warehouses, shopping centres and mining structures including conveyors. In 2012 I detailed the flues, ducting, platforms for the chimneys at the Medupi power station, this was extremely challenging as it involved square to rounds, complexed shaped and angled ducting pieces for which I received the SAISC overall winner award for this detailing work.
While running my own detailing company, and as a result of my vast Strucad expertise, Acecad used my service on a consulting bases for support and training Strucad users until the handover in 2012. Joint Liemar Software in 2014 as the Aveva Bocad support and training manager. However this has grown into being responsible for sales and support for LiemarX, Aveva Bocad and Aveva FabTrol.
I love my rugby and cricket – although watching it on TV. I absolutely love spoiling and spending time with my grandchildren. I enjoy working with people and have a passion for teaching others very ambitious and always very keen to learn as I believe in the saying “you are never too old to learn”. I am a very caring person and for me family will and always come first.
My life is based on two things:
1. "Do not put your goals too low as they may come true"
2. "I don’t know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future"
